JAMIE G WANTS TO KILL ME
-Conceptualized in 2021, I began creating pages for a potential comic series, most of what is pictured here was drawn in 2022 when I was 19. Ink on paper and rendered digitally.
The story takes place in 2005, following convicted serial killer Jamie Gaffner, as she is moved from a lengthy prison sentence, to indefinite treatment at a high security psychiatric ward. Here she is forced to interact with a diverse cast of quirky characters all with distinct personalities. Together they try to navigate daily life in the hospital, finding ways around the inexperienced staff, strict regulations, and the overall lack of freedom. The story follows themes of mental health with a dark comedic tone, mocking stereotypes and outdated treatment historically used against people with mental health conditions.

-The heavy Jhonen Vasquez inspiration is hard to miss, currently my style has evolved into something more unique to myself. Eventually I plan on reworking the entire comic with the plot mostly the same, just with some writing, tone, and pacing tweaks. -The story began as a way to vent my own personal frustrations with the mistreatment me and my friends received while in inpatient therapy ourselves as teenagers. The setting and characters are heavily inspired by the hospital I was treated at and the people I met there. I still struggle with my mental health currently and this story is my way to share my thoughts artistically.
